Obama May Consider a VAT or National Sales Tax

From our mainstream friends at Fox News, Obama is considering the adaptation of a Value Added Tax (VAT). It does not matter what political “side” supports this idea more than the other, so don’t start a flame war in the comments section please. Thank you. We are here to offer solutions; you know, the ones that don’t suck.

For those of you who aren’t “in the know”, a VAT is a tax placed on each step of a manufacturing process or on each material used in the said process. It is also a tax placed on a sale of a good or service when the sale is made at-value or higher than at-value. So, using basic math skills, you can see why this solution sucks. It will drive up the price of goods, quite astronomically in some cases. Cars are made of a bunch of metals, plastics (which are made from oil), rubber (again, oil), paint, and polish. Each of those things would be taxed and the total of the tax would be added on to the price of the car. You think GM’s going to eat that loss? No, not really; especially after they said they paid back their loan, but they seemed to do it in a shifty way. Proponents of entitlement programs can justify this new tax by saying the tax will make the funds available to make said entitlement programs more expansive and outreaching. They do that to force help down the throats of people that, you know, really don’t need help.

Again, here’s something that may be an even bigger death blow to you VAT supporters; don’t expect the income tax to be repealed when this goes through. We’ll have the same complicated income tax program, Social Security withdraws, state income tax, a salt tax in NY, and this new tax will be reflected in the price of products! And now Washington wants to enact a national sugar tax to help pay for the new healthcare laws. Seem familiar?

Look, I’ll level with you guys, we need a tax reform. A VAT is not tax reform; however, this is. Beautiful.
