PR Log (Press Release) – May 27, 2010 – While other candidates looking to make their way to Jefferson City by out spending their opponents, James Green continues to try a different approach. Green has pledged to run this campaign on exactly what the people want, and today he announces another way the he plans to keep that promise. “The main thing that voters have told me is not new and I was not surprised,” says Green. “The people want to have a voice, they want to be heard, and they want to know what is going on behind closed doors. From their city government to their federal government people are taking more of an interest in what’s going on.” Green says that these are the things that have led him to come up with a plan to give a voice back to the voters. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It would work like this: A few local residents will be asked to volunteer to help organize 3 to 4 town hall style meetings each year. At these meetings, Green would attend and speak to everyone who attends, and others would be invited to speak as well. A question and answer session would be worked in and even questioners could be submitted to help get a feel of what residents of the 134th are thinking on specific issues. “Its kind of a grass roots idea, and it can be whatever the people want it to be, by using volunteers who would like to be involved it allows us to form it in whatever way works best for us” says Green. “My hope is that by putting these meetings together, not only will residents have a forum to be heard, but this could create a true nonpartisan group that could meet even more often then the times that I would be speaking if they chose to do so.” Volunteers would be encouraged to have meetings all year long in the hope that this open format would encourage residents who attend to continue to meet long after Green would leave office if he is elected this fall.
The second phase of this program is to create an online community that will allow voters and Green to stay in contact even if he is away at Jefferson City. This would mean it would be easier to get a response from an elected official then it has been in the past. Also this would allow others who join the online group to discuss issues with each other though some form of message boards. At this time there has been no indication if this would be a new site built specifically for the residents of the 134th district or if one of the popular social networks such as Facebook.com or Meetup.com would be used.
“The best thing about the whole plan is that we could put this entire program together for free if we wanted to,” Green pointed out. “No tax dollars are needed to make this happen, we can use free social networks for the online part of the program and we can find places that will let us meet for free in our communities as well.”
Green also wanted it to be made clear that in order to take part in one you do not have to take part in the other and the primary goal of this program is to give a voice back to the people, no matter what their political views may be. He added, “It’s not about right or left, it’s about the American sprit. No matter what views people may have on specific issues, we are all Americans who love their country and want what is best for it as a whole. Different things affect different people in different ways. We need to be able to understand that every law change that state or federal legislators make can drastically change our economy, our heritage, our livelihood, and even our freedoms. I hope this will be a way for us to come together as a People and help to get this country back on track. Our individual communities shape our entire country, and I would love for ours to become an example of true patriotism for others to see.”
